2nd Quarter Newsletter
Gleek School Musical was a huge success! With sell out shows, stellar
singing performances, and funny antics, the crowd loved it! We would like to
congratulate the cast and crew for putting on such a great show! Of course we
owe our success to the patrons who, time and time again, show their love and
support of our theatre by just being here, Thank you!
Here are some thoughts from the Writer/Director Eric Jensen:
This was a very atypical show here at the Off Broadway Theatre. Usually we depend on comedy first and singing and dancing second. However when doing parody of television’s Glee we knew we had to change that mode of thinking. Instead of doing three or four songs in a show, we have fifteen. This was an actual mini-musical. On top of that, we still found first class comedians who made our audiences laugh just as hard as always, while bringing fantastic young talent who will impressed us all with their musical theater abilities.
Great job everyone!
The Adventure’s of Sheer-Luck Homes and Snotson is gearing up to be
another great performance.
Here are some thoughts from the Writer/Director Cody
K. Carlson:
The Adventures of Sheer-Luck Homes
and Snotson was
first performed at the Off Broadway Theatre in February 2006 under the
first-rate direction of Zac Zumbrunnen. It’s a difficult thing to write a
play, to hold a vision in your head, and then hand over the reins to someone
else. Zac took my script and made it come alive in ways I never could
have imagined. Zac has since condensed the script into a one act and
directed it for children’s theater on two occasions. Quite a bit of Zac’s
original vision and subsequent variations made it into the current production,
including many bits that came out of left field—but just seem to work. A
great cast also contributed to the 2006 production, and I couldn’t be more
delighted to have them back. Largely because of the show’s controversial
ending (I thought it was funny), it was doubtful we’d get to do this show
again. It’s back in no small part due to the agitators in the original
cast who wanted to do it one more time—you know who you are. This show is
as much theirs as it is mine. Joining those members of the original cast
are several new faces bringing their own sense of wackiness to the show—and I
couldn’t be happier. As always my thanks to Eric and Sandy and the OBT
board. Now, sit back and enjoy this riff on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s
timeless classic. Finally—and this is for Justin—“The Game’s Afoot!”
Running March 30th
– April 28th. Showing Mondays (starting April 9th),
Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 PM

The second show for this quarter will be Greece Is The Word.
This show is set in
Ancient Greece (50 A.D.) but the characters have the sock-hoping, “greasers”
attitudes of the 1950’s.
Auditions for this show will take
place March 31st at 10:00 AM. Anyone interested should come to the
theatre with a head shot and minus track or sheet music of an upbeat song, and
should be prepared for a cold reading and to learn a dance routine. Callbacks
will be later the same day.
This show will run
from May 18th – June 16th
playing Mondays (starting May
28th), Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30PM
We will also have
a special showing of this play in Kamas, Utah, on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Our
shows in Kamas are always high energy, so, even if you’ve seen it in Salt Lake,
we hope you’ll come to Kamas to show your support and enjoy a whole new
experience!
Wanna Laugh?
Of course we can’t
go without reminding everyone of our award-winning improv comedy troupe, Laughing Stock.

been part of the interactive, audience-participation excitement of a live
improv show featuring the kind of improvisational games and laughs seen on such
T.V. shows as “Who’s Line Is It, Anyway?”
and others, come out to Laughing Stock
to see what you’re missing. If you’ve been before, come back because you
already know that no two shows are alike!
